A friend passes

I rediscovered today that work interferes with life too much. I know this because I have been following the website of my favourite musician Michael Brecker. I haven't been able to check up on how he was doing in his fight with leukemia because I've been so busy lately that I've been too knackered to surf the net.

I discovered this morning that my musical hero died back in January (13th). I was unprepared for the news and have been affected more than I thought would be possible. His music has accompanied me most of my adult life. I am pleased to have been alive at the same time as he was. I celebrate his life and I'm sad that there will be no more music from him. He introduced me to Jazz and latin and funk and so much more. Thanks Mike you were, and are, a light in the darkness. The world has lost a talented soul.

Happiness birth to 50 years

I've decided that I won't continue the happiness theme. The explanation I was going to give would have been poor psyhcology and mainly based on my own experiences - you should try read this stuff - no you shouldn't, really don't do it. As a "science" psychology is 1) subjective and 2)has little or no proof to fully explain whats going on in our minds.

If you feel you must read anything read "The Art of Happiness" by the Dali Lama & Howard C Cutler. Its quite heavy on spiritual stuff but its the best book I've read on the subject.

The last thing I will say about happiness is this - only you can decide to be happy and its up to you to choose.


I've got a new granddaughter lovely little AVW! Such a small thing and exquisite. Grandma and granddad are in love again! Three grandchildren and I'm only 53! Bring it on. The more the merrier.
